Admissions: M.U.S.T. Launches a New Program of PhD in Education and a New program of Master of Education

University International College (UIC) of Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) has launched two new programs, Doctor of Philosophy in Education, and Master of Education, in the fall of the 2024/2025 academic year. Online applications will be accepted until August 15, 2024.

Established in 2010, University International College (UIC) offers a variety of academic opportunities including certificate and non-certificate education, student exchange programs, study abroad programs, and language proficiency tests. UIC boasts diverse degree programs such as three Bachelor of Arts tracks in Foreign Language Studies (English, Portuguese, and Spanish), three Master of Foreign Language Studies tracks (English, Portuguese, and Spanish), Master and Doctoral programs in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL and DCFL) as well as a PhD in Creative Writing. UIC also provides College English and College Chinese for the General Education programs. UIC is committed to providing students with compound training courses with a diversified platform and international teaching team, aiming to cultivate new compound liberal arts talents with both foreign language skills and professional knowledge.

In the 2024 World University Rankings by Times Higher Education (THE), the university is ranked 251-300 in the world, and ranked 26th in the “Young University Rankings 2023”. Additionally, in the comprehensive Social Sciences category of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database, the subject area of UIC’s curriculum proudly stands among the top 1% globally.

Doctor of Philosophy in Education

The Doctor of Philosophy in Education program aims to cultivate high-level talents engaged in higher education, preparing graduates for research and teaching. Graduates will possess the professional knowledge to understand significant educational issues, the professional capabilities and research skills to conduct cutting-edge academic research, and the ability to effectively integrate theory and research to fill gaps in empirical studies. They will explore the relationship between educational practice and learning outcomes, thus enhancing curriculum design and learning effectiveness.


Master of Education 

The inception of the Master of Education program highlights the University's active adherence to national policies and proactive dedication to serving society. With the solid backing of UIC's international teaching team and a curriculum centered on international education, this program is set to exceed standards. This program positions its graduates at the forefront of advanced educational research and exploration. It empowers them with the skills needed to critically analyze and examine the effects on aspects such as educational practices, learning efficacy, administration, curriculum, and assessment. Additionally, the program encourages research into advanced technologies, fosters a culture of academic integrity, and bolsters teaching practice capabilities. One of the distinguishing features of this MEd program lies in its strong emphasis on international cooperation. University International College boasts a remarkable team of international educators hailing from the Macao S.A.R., Hong Kong S.A.R., China Mainland, the United States, Spain, Portugal, and beyond. These educators have worked at prestigious universities both domestically and internationally, bringing rich teaching experience and high academic standards to the college. UIC also employs numerous renowned scholars as part-time professors, with faculty members from the University of Cambridge, Columbia University, and Peking University, among others.

Program Objectives

Doctor of Philosophy in Education 

The Doctor of Philosophy in Education program is designed to cultivate and develop high-level specialized talents who are equally proficient in both professional practice and research within the fields of education, teaching, and educational management. This program emphasizes the cultivation of academic research capabilities, requiring students to enhance their own academic research skills through the knowledge they acquire. During the learning process, students must conduct original research, focusing on scientific studies that develop educational theories, thereby contributing to the accumulation of human knowledge.


Master of Education 

The Master of Education program is designed for individuals seeking to enhance their educational knowledge and practical skills. This program fosters students with notable academic competency and professional skills, enabling them to be well-prepared for various career opportunities. Graduates will acquire professional knowledge, gain insights into critical educational issues, and conduct practical research to analyze and evaluate these issues. They will also actively participate in numerous practical activities such as educational management, curriculum design, educational assessment, research, and the application of advanced educational technologies.

Potential Employment

Graduates of the Doctor of Philosophy in Education program (DPED) will be prepared to fulfill faculty and research scientist responsibilities at universities, research institutes, and centers of government or non-government that conduct education-oriented research.

Graduates of the Master of Education program (MEd) have the flexibility to choose positions from education fields, pursue doctoral studies in preparation for future employment in universities, research institutions, and educational research centers, or engage in academic management and teaching roles.

Admission Requirements

Doctor of Philosophy in Education (DPED)

l   Applicants must possess a master's degree in any field of study.

l   Evidence of language proficiency is mandatory. This could be a score of 450 or above on the College English Test (CET-6), a score of 6.0 or higher on the IELTS, or any equivalent English language proficiency certificate. For non-general foreign languages, a language proficiency proof equivalent to the CEFR B2 level or higher is required.

Master of Education (MEd)

l   Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in any field of study.

l   Evidence of language proficiency is mandatory. This could be a score of 450 or above on the College English Test (CET-6), a score of 6.0 or higher on the IELTS, or any equivalent English language proficiency certificate. For non-general foreign languages, a language proficiency proof equivalent to the CEFR B2 level or higher is required.
